Things I dont agree with in the reading

The question for the week is how Bush’s or Haraways ideas made sense to me or how they did not make sense to me, and why. Well, the first thing I want to say, in regards to how something I felt was important was not mentioned in Bush’s talk is the use of technology. Bush stated that he did not want to have certain technology because he did not want it to end up in the wrong hands, and instead of using that technology in a productive, good way, that technology will end up in the wrong hands, and that person will use that cutting edge technology in a bad way. This is something that I found absolutely ridiculous, for, it seems to me, that the people that are usually behind this “cutting edge” technology usually are the people that know the most about it, and sometimes these are the people that use that technology to get what they want out of it. Granted the ultimate goal of this reading was to create awareness of the amazing things that technology can bring to the world and to human kind. But are we forgetting that sometimes the people that have most information to this information are sometimes using it to just benefit themselves? Not to say that I think all people are going to use things to just benefit themselves, but lets be honest here, most people, regardless of how much they want to help others have an alternative motive, and really, they are just looking out for number one: themselves. I thought Bush’s ideas were good, if it weren’t for him we wouldn’t have the things that we do today, but the thing is, is that while I agreed with his ideas, I also found some of them to be a little short sited in thinking that people wouldn’t use this amazing technology for the bad. Well I guess that is something that he touched base on, and wishes that people wouldn’t do, but realistically, people will many times surprise you, and while most people really are looking out to help people, you do have to think about the people that don’t. This is why Bush referred to the Cold War as an example of that. I agree with many ideas Bush has, I guess I was just being a pessimist in regards to thinking that all people are good and that they are always going to look out for others.
