Things I dont agree with in the reading

The question for the week is how Bush’s or Haraways ideas made sense to me or how they did not make sense to me, and why. Well, the first thing I want to say, in regards to how something I felt was important was not mentioned in Bush’s talk is the use of technology. Bush stated that he did not want to have certain technology because he did not want it to end up in the wrong hands, and instead of using that technology in a productive, good way, that technology will end up in the wrong hands, and that person will use that cutting edge technology in a bad way. This is something that I found absolutely ridiculous, for, it seems to me, that the people that are usually behind this “cutting edge” technology usually are the people that know the most about it, and sometimes these are the people that use that technology to get what they want out of it. Granted the ultimate goal of this reading was to create awareness of the amazing things that technology can bring to the world and to human kind. But are we forgetting that sometimes the people that have most information to this information are sometimes using it to just benefit themselves? Not to say that I think all people are going to use things to just benefit themselves, but lets be honest here, most people, regardless of how much they want to help others have an alternative motive, and really, they are just looking out for number one: themselves. I thought Bush’s ideas were good, if it weren’t for him we wouldn’t have the things that we do today, but the thing is, is that while I agreed with his ideas, I also found some of them to be a little short sited in thinking that people wouldn’t use this amazing technology for the bad. Well I guess that is something that he touched base on, and wishes that people wouldn’t do, but realistically, people will many times surprise you, and while most people really are looking out to help people, you do have to think about the people that don’t. This is why Bush referred to the Cold War as an example of that. I agree with many ideas Bush has, I guess I was just being a pessimist in regards to thinking that all people are good and that they are always going to look out for others.

How My Blog Enhances Me

I feel that my blog enchances who I am for I am able to express who I am through my own words in a blog. It is very much so like journalling, only many people can see what I am saying, whereas journals are way more private. One of the things i have found about blogs are that many people put ridiculous things on them, and for me i do not put all that extra stuff on there. This blog is going to be a tool for me, to give me perspective into the lives of others, and academically it will help me keep on track with assignments. It will allow my classmates to see an inside look into my life, and will allow my professor read all about me. This blog gives me time to reflect on things within myself that i have never taken the time to think about before (mainly because i am being forced to think about certain things, but that is what school is right?) But really, I think blogs are a good thing. They allow people to have a release on things that are going on in their lives, and people are then able to express how they feel about certain topics, and i feel that is how this blog is going to enhance my life.

“How Will We ‘Think’ in 50 Years?"

In fifty years I will be 72 years old. I feel that within that fifty years many things will happen to me, and many things will change. One of the things that I feel will change the most is the clothing styles, and the way that young people dress. I think that trends seem to repeat themselves, so it will be interesting to see how the young people of the time will dress. At the age of 72 I will probably say about the young people, "I never dressed so inappropriate at my age!" Which might be true, might not be. I think it will be interesting to see how the trends change though.

One of the things that I think will also change very much is our economy, and the way that we spend money. I will probably say, "I remember when gas was only three dollars a gallon, compared to what it is now" This is something that I have thought about before, and with the economy like it is, and how things are getting more and more expensive over the years, I feel that this is definitely one of the things that will get more expensive within the next fifty years.

In fifty years the technology within society Im sure will change even more drastically then it is currently. I know that even now I keep thinking, who is thinking up this stuff anyway? In fifty years I am pretty sure that I will find much of the technology to be ridiculous, and not needed. I think that about somethings currently, so Im sure when I have grandchildren, and they all want the newest fad and the new lastest thing, Im pretty sure I will question "Why?" "Arent you content with what you have now?" Im sure this is something that my grandparents have thought or felt in the past, and I am sure that this is something that I will question in the future also. I have a feeling I will be one of those old ladies that says, "I remember when..."
